Zucchini Drive is Marcus Graap (of Sweden's Eurocrunk heroes Stacs of Stamina) and Tom De Geeter aka Siaz (of Belgium's avant hop pioneers Cavemen Speak). In the winter of 2003 – somewhere between London, Paris and Brussels – they joined forces for what started off as a sidewinder project.
After plenty of touring in Europe and having released albums as The World After 4/02 and Gunporn, Zucchini Drive saw the light. This project fully united Tom and Marcus' backgrounds, being the acoustic lo-fi sound of Cavemen Speak on one hand and the electronica bounce rhythms of Stacs of Stamina on the other. They decided to make this their main project and in 2006 the Zucchini brothers signed to 2nd rec (Europe) & Hue (Japan) for the release of 'Being Kurtwood'.
This instant classic featured Alias & Sole (Anticon), Styrofoam & B. Fleischmann (Morr), Markus Acher (The Notwist, Lali Puna, 13&God), Grand Buffet, Giardini di Mirò, Bleubird ... The collaborations were as plentiful as they were diverse, showing that Zucchini Drive didn't fear to cross borders. |
While tearing up clubs in Europe & Japan in 2006, the boys started working on new material. Choosing a different approach again, they limited guest appearances and took time to get more involved in the production process. They selected a small group of musicians to build a fresh new sound: KaeoFLUX (Pilot Balloon), Radical Face, Mich (Hitch), Pol (Galatasaray) and last but not least, long time friend and Cavemen Speak member Nomad. The result can be heard on the new full length 'Goodyear Television Playhouse', out now on 2nd rec (Europe) and Hue (Japan).
'Goodyear Television Playhouse' will sweep you of your feet. It takes you from hip hop to indie pop and folk to rock ... a journey you won't forget!

Background information:
Marcus & Tom first collaborated on some of the Cavemen Speak releases. In 2003 they formed the duo The World after 4/02. Their debut album 'Vikings & Waffles' (2003) sounded lighter and more hip hop oriented than their respective bands. Their second album 'Pretty Pretty Please' (2004) had a dark sound doused in drum'n'bass rhythms and industrial tones, which contrasted nicely with the fast raps. The album was released under the name Gunporn, a collaboration with American musician Bleubird en German producer XNDL. Both CD's were released on vinyl by Subversiv*Rec and were followed by an intensive tour throughout Europe. The first Zucchini Drive release (2006) did really well and even took them to Japan.
Marcus and Tom have performed live continuously with their different projects, supporting Alias, Beans, Boom Bip, De La Soul, Def Jux Collective, Galapagos4, Grand Buffet, Josh Martinez (Chicharones), Mike Ladd, Murs, Sage Francis, Saul Williams, Shapeshifters, Sole, Technoanimal, Themselves ... |
