Ansatz der Maschine originally started as an experimental one-off project of soundtechs Mathijs Bertel & Alexander Baert. When they were both asked to perform on the 2001 edition of the Belgian art festival 'Bolwerk', they joined forces to create a smooth blend of click 'n' cuts and live guitars.

After that, they each got back to their own projects, playing in bands and writing music for theatre & dance performances.
In 2003 the befriended Spanish postrock band Henry asked Ansatz der Maschine to support them on some Belgian shows. The duo got back together and this time also spent some time in the studio. Their first recordings were assembled on a demo CD: 'Hide For The Beast'.

The innovating tracks got them to win the CJP contest 'Het jong 2004', designed to give young artists some promotion (and a cash prize of 5000 euro!). The media attention this generated resulted in a bunch of live shows and the continuation of what was planned to be a temporary project.
Ansatz der Maschine's number has in the meantime grown to 4 during live sets. On stage: a small brass section, keys and a whole bunch of electronic stuff. Founding member Alexander is not a part of the band at this time, but he might be back for more to come.

In the fall of 2006, the long awaited first album is released on Vlas Vegas Records (Galatasaray, Hawai, Hitch): 'The Postman Is A Girl'.
